House Subcommittee Considers Violence Against the Rohingya

On September 27, the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific held a hearing, “Burma’s Brutal Campaign Against the Rohingya.” The hearing focused on violence, including the rape of women and girls, against the Rohingya, an ethnic minority group in Burma.

The following witnesses testified:

  • Walter Lohman, director, Asia Studies Center, Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, The Heritage Foundation;
  • Daniel P. Sullivan, senior advocate for Human Rights, Refugees International;
  • Michael F. Martin, specialist in Asian Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Trade Division, Congressional Research Service; and
  • Andrea Gittleman, program manager, Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
