Floor Action

Family Support— On July 10, the House passed, 368-19, H.R. 5793, the Housing Choice Voucher Mobility Demonstration Act. The measure would encourage families receiving housing choice vouchers to move to lower-poverty areas and expand access to areas with high opportunity.

International— On July 10, the House passed, by voice vote, H.R. 2259, the Sam Farr Peace Corps Enhancement Act. The bill includes several provisions to protect Peace Corps volunteers and employees from sexual violence.

Mark-Ups  

Appropriations— On July 11, the House Appropriations Committee approved, 30-22, the FY2019 Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), Education, and Related Agencies spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies passed the measure on June 15; the Senate Committee on Appropriations approved its version of the bill on June 28 (see The Source, 6/15/18, 6/29/18; please click here for the House Committee report).

Hearings

Employment— On July 11, the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy held a hearing, “Examining the Importance of Paid Family Leave for American Working Families.”
