“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”

This year marks the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which catalyzed the movement for women’s equality. Since then, 366 women have been elected or appointed to Congress. WCPI recognizes the important work of the women who came before us and applauds the women who continue this fight today. Because of these changemakers and suffragists who fought for women’s suffrage, WCPI now works with over 130 women Senators and Members and countless women worldwide who are engaging their communities as leaders.

Centennial Celebration and Suffrage Events

In honor of this centennial, WCPI has followed the path toward ratification with a special series of social media posts and created a list of 19 accomplishments for women in the House and the Senate since the passage of the 19th Amendment. We encourage you to use the interactive map above for more information on the woman’s vote!

Last year, WCPI participated in congressional events to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the House and Senate passage of the 19th Amendment in May and June, respectively.
