Floor Action: The Senate and House are in session this week.
Appropriations– On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 3944, the FY2026 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies spending bill, which includes funding for military family housing and the Veterans Health Administration.
Hearings:
Child Protection– On Tuesday, the House Education and the Workforce Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education will hold a hearing, “Child Care and the American Workforce: Removing Barriers to Economic Growth.”
Veterans– On Tuesday, the House Disability and Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee on Veterans’ Affairs will hold a legislative hearing about several bills, including H.R. 3833, Veterans’ Caregiver Appeals Modernization Act of 2025, which makes improvements to the program of the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide comprehensive assistance for family caregivers of eligible veterans.
Mark-Ups:
Appropriations– On Monday, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Legislative Branch will markup the FY2026 Branch spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered), which includes provisions relating to payments to widows of Members of Congress and funding for childcare for House employees.
On Tuesday, the House Appropriations Committee will mark up the FY2026 Homeland Security spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). The legislation includes funding to combat international human smuggling and a provision stating that none of the funds are made available to place restraints on pregnant women in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security unless stated otherwise by a department official or medical professional.
