Floor Action: The House and Senate are in session.
Appropriations- This week, the House may consider a laddered continuing resolution (CR) (as-yet-unnumbered) to extend several FY2023 spending bills to January 2024, and several to February 2024. The CR extension to January includes four spending bills: Agriculture-FDA; Energy and Water; Military Construction-VA; and Transportation-HUD. The CR extension to February includes eight spending bills: Commerce-Justice-Science; Defense; Financial Services; Homeland Security; Interior-Environment; Labor-HHS-Education; Legislative Branch; and State, Foreign Operations.
Also this week, the House may consider several spending bills, including H.R. 5893, the FY2024 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies spending bill; H.R. 5894, the FY2024 Labor, Health, Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies spending bill; and H.R. 4820, the FY2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies spending bill.
Crime- Today, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 1105, the Debbie Smith Act of 2023, to extend funding to FY2029. The Justice Department grant program, currently set to expire at the end of FY2024, supports state and local law enforcement agencies’ analysis of DNA evidence collected from crimes, including untested rape kits.
