Bill to Eliminate Child Sex Trafficking Passes Senate

On December 9, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, the Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking Deterrence and Victims Support Act (S. 2925), after adopting, by unanimous consent, an amendment by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) to strengthen the bill’s reporting requirements in order to ensure prompt reporting of missing children. The Senate adopted, also by unanimous consent, a second amendment by Sen. Wyden to offset the cost of S. 2925 and to make technical changes. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the measure on August 5 (see The Source, 8/6/10).

During its consideration of the bill in August, the Judiciary Committee adopted a substitute amendment that would, among other provisions, authorize $15 million annually for FY2012-2014.
