On June 4, the House approved, 421-4, the FY2014 Military Construction, Veterans’ Affairs, and Related Agencies appropriations bill (H.R. 2216). The House Appropriations Committee approved the measure on May 21 (see The Source, 5/24/13).
The bill would provide a total of $157.782 billion in overall funding for military construction programs at the Department of Defense (DoD) and programs at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This amount is $12.939 billion over the amount enacted for FY2013 and $1.37 billion below President Obama’s FY2014 budget request.
The measure includes several provisions to address military sexual assault programs for veterans, as well as health services for female veterans. Funding for family housing and child care also would be provided by H.R. 2216.
