On June 7, the House approved, 379-35, the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2005 (S. 913), which would increase the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) fines on incidents of indecency. The Senate approved the bill on May 18 (see The Source, 5/19/06). Sponsored by Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), the bill would increase the FCC fine for any incident of indecency to $325,000.
The bill will now be sent to the White House to be signed into law by President Bush.
