House Passes Entrepreneurship Bill

On November 18, the House passed, by voice vote, the Expanding Entrepreneurship Act (H.R. 1842). Provisions of this bill, sponsored by Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO), were incorporated into the Job Creation Through Entrepreneurship Act (H.R. 2352), which the House passed in May (see The Source, 5/22/09).

The Expanding Entrepreneurship Act would require the Small Business Administration (SBA) administrator to develop and submit to Congress a plan for using the SBA entrepreneurship development programs “as a catalyst for job growth in FY2009 and 2010.” Such a plan would be required to build upon existing SBA programs, including the Women Business Center (WBC) and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) programs.

The bill also would require the administrator to establish a web-based portal that would provide “comprehensive information on the administration’s entrepreneurship development programs.” The portal would be required to combine into a single portal information from the WBC and SBDC programs, among others.
