Missing Children Bill Clears House

On July 21, the House passed, 417-5, the A Child is Missing Alert and Recovery Center Act (H.R. 1933).

Sponsored by Rep. Ron Klein (D-FL), the bill would direct the attorney general to make an annual grant to the A Child Is Missing Alert and Recovery Center to assist law enforcement agencies in the rapid recovery of missing children. The measure would authorize $5 million annually from FY2010 through 2015 to provide services to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to promote the quick recovery of a missing child in response to a request from such agencies for assistance by utilizing rapid alert telephone calls, text messaging, and satellite mapping technology.
