Ryan White Reauthorization Clears Senate, House

On October 19, the Senate passed, by voice vote, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act (S. 1793). The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee passed the measure on September 30 (see The Source, 10/2/09). Although the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed a nearly identical version of the bill (H.R. 3792) on October 14 (see The Source, 10/16/09), the House agreed to consider S. 1793 and passed the measure, 408-9, on October 21. The current authorization for the law expired on September 30. However, a one-month extension was included in the continuing resolution (P.L. 111-68).
