Floor Action:

Miscellaneous- On March 17, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, S. Res. 409, a resolution recognizing March 2016 as National Women’s History Month.

Human Trafficking- On March 17, the Senate adopted, by a vote of 96-0, a resolution directing the Senate Legal Counsel to enforce a subpoena of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (S. Res. 377) against Backpage.com.

International- On March 14, the House passed, by a vote of 393-0, a resolution expressing the sense of Congress that the atrocities perpetrated by the Islamic State are war crimes and genocide (H. Con. Res. 75).

Mark-Ups:

Health- On March 16, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee approved, by voice vote, S. 2687, the Plan of Safe Care Improvement Act.

Budget- On March 16, the House Budget Committee approved, 20-16, the FY2017 budget resolution (as-yet-unnumbered).

On March 15, the House Energy and Commerce Committee approved, 28-19, H.R. 4725, the Common Sense Savings Act.

Tax Policy- On March 16, the House Ways and Means Committee approved, 21-15, H.R. 4722, a bill to require the inclusion of an individual’s Social Security Number in order to claim the refundable portion of the Child Tax Credit.

Hearings:

Miscellaneous- On March 17, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on several bills, including S. 1975, the Sewell-Belmont House Act.

Abortion- On March 15, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing, “Late-Term Abortion: Protecting Babies Born Alive and Capable of Feeling Pain.”
