Floor Action:

Budget- On Tuesday, President Trump submitted to Congress his FY2018 budget request.

Child Protection- This week, the House approved several bills to protect children from abuse and exploitation: H.R. 1862, the Global Child Protection Act; H.R. 1842, the Strengthening Children’s Safety Act; H.R. 1188, the Adam Walsh Reauthorization Act; H.R. 883, the Targeting Child Predators Act; H.R. 695, the Child Protection Improvements Act; H.R. 1809, the Juvenile Justice Reform Act; H.R. 1808, the Improving Support for Missing and Exploited Children Act; H.R. 1973, the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse Act; and H.R. 1761, the Protecting Against Child Exploitation Act.

Human Trafficking- This week, the House approved H.R. 1625, the Targeted Rewards for the Global Eradication of Human Trafficking (TARGET) Act, and H.R. 2473, the Enforce Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act.

Military- On May 24, the House passed, 418-0, H.R. 2052, the Protecting the Rights of Individuals Against Technological Exploitation (PRIVATE) Act.

Mark-Ups:

International- On May 25, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved the Women, Peace, and Security Act, S. 1141 and H.R. 2484, respectively.

On May 25, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved H.R. 601, the Reinforcing Education Accountability in Development (READ) Act.

Hearings:

Health- On May 23, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations held a hearing, “U.S. Public Health Response to the Zika Virus: Continuing Challenges.”
