Veterans- On July 30, the House passed, 420-5, the conference report for H.R. 3230, the Veterans’ Access to Care through Choice, Accountability, and Transparency Act. The Senate approved the report by a vote of 91-3 on July 31, clearing the measure for President Obama’s signature.
Child Protection- On July 28, the House passed, by voice vote, the Victims of Child Abuse Reauthorization Act (S. 1799), clearing the legislation for the president’s signature.
Health- On August 1, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, S. Res. 536, a resolution designating September 2014 as National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
International- On July 30, the House Foreign Affairs Committee passed, by voice vote, the Girls Count Act (H.R. 3398).
Violence Against Women- On July 30, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing, “Violence Against Women Act Next Steps: Protecting Women from Gun Violence.”
Employment- On July 30, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee held a hearing, “Paid Family Leave: The Benefits for Businesses and Working Families.”
