On March 15, the House International Relations Committee approved, by unanimous consent, a resolution (H. Con. Res. 90) that would convey the sympathy of Congress to the families of the young women murdered in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, and encourage increased U.S. involvement in bringing an end to these crimes. The House International Relations Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere approved the resolution on November 2, 2005 (see The Source, 11/04/05).
“I’m so pleased that the International Relations Committee approved this resolution,” said resolution sponsor Rep. Hilda Solis (D-CA) in a press release. “Today’s action takes us one step closer to bringing justice to the families of Ciudad Juárez. Binational cooperation between the United States and Mexico will help bring an end to the murders of women in Ciudad Juárez and closure to their families. I look forward to the full House of Representatives’ consideration of this important measure,” Rep. Solis said.
