Congressional Schedule: July 25-29, 2022

Floor Action:

The House and Senate are in session this week. 

Human Trafficking- On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 6552, the Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act of 2022, as amended.

Health- On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 7289, the Federal Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) Research Evaluation Act, as amended. The bill would direct a federal research agenda to advance PFAS understanding, including its effects on low infant birthweight and reproductive and developmental problems.

Violence Against Women- Also on Tuesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 7132, the Safe Connections Act of 2022, a bill to preserve safe access to communications services for domestic violence survivors.

Mark-Ups:

Child Protection- On Wednesday, the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will mark up several bills, including S. 3663, the Kids Online Safety Act. The bill would prevent and mitigate sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, and sexual abuse of minors and trafficking of online child sexual abuse material.

Health- On Wednesday, the House Natural Resources Committee will mark up H.R. 2021, the Environmental Justice for All Act. The bill would, among other provisions, direct the secretary of Health and Human Services to award grants for research focused on chemicals in cosmetic products marketed to women and girls of color and their adverse health effects, and development of safer alternatives.

International- On Wednesday, the House Foreign Affairs Committee will mark up several bills, including H.R. 4134, the Keeping Girls in School Act, and H.R. 7240, the Reinforcing Education Accountability in Development (READ) Act, which would reauthorize funding for international programs that increase girls’ access to basic education.

Violence Against Women- On Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee will mark up several bills, including H.R. 1728, the Strategy and Investment in Rural Housing Preservation Act of 2021, which would add rural development housing voucher assistance to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). 

Hearings:

Employment- On Thursday, the House Education and Labor Subcommittee on Workforce Protections will hold a hearing, “Essential but Undervalued: Examining Workplace Protections for Domestic Workers.”

Family Support- On Thursday, the House Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth will hold a hearing, “Building a Modern Economic Foundation: Economic Security and Income Support for 21st Century America.” This hearing will discuss the benefits of programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Military- On Wednesday, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation will hold a hearing, “Enhancing Personnel Resources to Support a Stronger, More Resilient Coast Guard.” This hearing will include discussion on the unique challenges faced by women in the Coast Guard.  

Veterans- On Thursday, the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing, “Progress Made? Ending Sexual Harassment at the Department of Veterans Affairs.”

Violence Against Women- On Tuesday, the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Investigations will hold a hearing, “Corruption, Abuse, and Misconduct at U.S. Penitentiary Atlanta.” The hearing will address accusations of widespread criminal activity and sexual assault at the prison.
