Congressional Schedule: May 17-21, 2021

The House and Senate are in session this week. 

Floor Action:

Civil Rights- On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider H. Res. 275, a resolution condemning the horrific shootings in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 16, 2021, and reaffirming the House of Representative’s commitment to combating hate, bigotry, and violence against the Asian-American and Pacific Islander community. 

International- On Tuesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 1157, the Department of State Authorization Act of 2021, which includes many provisions relating to expanding opportunities and protections for women and girls. 

STEM- On Monday, the House will consider several bills, including H.R. 204, STEM Opportunities Act, and H.R. 2695, Combating Sexual Harassment in Science Act.

Veterans- Also on Monday, the House will consider H.R. 2704, the Improving VA Accountability to Prevent Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Act of 2021.

Hearings:

Employment- On Tuesday, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will hold a hearing, “Paid Leave for Working Families: Examining Access, Options, and Impacts.”

On Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing, “Oversight of Prudential Regulators: Ensuring the Safety, Soundness, Diversity, and Accountability of Depository Institutions.” The hearing will discuss several bills, including the Diversity in Financial Regulatory Advisory Committees Act (as-yet-unnumbered), and the Federal Reserve Bank Board Diversity Act (as-yet-unnumbered).

Small Business and Entrepreneurship- On Wednesday, the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee will hold a hearing, “Realizing the Vision of Parren Mitchell—Untapping the Potential of Minority and Women Contracting.”
