On September 13, the Senate approved, by unanimous consent, a bill (S. 1902) to establish a program on children and the media within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study the role and impact of electronic media in the development of children. The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee approved the bill on March 8 (see The Source, 3/10/2006). A similar bill (H.R. 4124) was introduced in the House by Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA).
S. 1902 would authorize such sums as may be necessary for FY2007-2012 for research to examine the role and positive and negative impact of electronic media in children’s and adolescents’ cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and behavioral development.
