On December 12, the Senate passed, by voice vote, the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act of 2012 (H.R. 2838). On December 5, the House passed a resolution (H. Res. 825) agreeing to the Senate amendment and providing for a new House amendment to the bill (see The Source, 12/7/12). President Obama is expected to sign the legislation into law.
Sponsored by Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ), the measure will reauthorize the U.S. Coast Guard for two years, providing $17.3 billion for FY2013 through FY2014. The legislation includes provisions related to sexual violence and sexual harassment within the Coast Guard and at the Coast Guard Academy.
