On June 14, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved, 16-14, the Financial Services and General Government FY2013 spending bill (S. 3301); the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government advanced the legislation on June 12.
The bill would provide a total of $44.287 billion in discretionary and mandatory funding for the Small Business Administration (SBA), the District of Columbia, the Treasury Department, and other related agencies; the funding level is $336.723 million below President Obama’s FY2013 budget request and $1.196 billion above FY2012.
According to the committee report, the legislation would include $1.124 billion for the SBA, $205 million above FY2012 and $9 million above the president’s request. The SBA supports women-owned small businesses through several programs, including the Women’s Business Centers program and the National Women’s Business Council.
The measure would continue the ban included in the FY2012 spending bill against the use of federal funds to pay for most abortions in the District of Columbia.
