Congress Approves FY2001 Supplemental Conference Report

On July 20, the House voted, 375-30, to approve the conference report for the FY2001 supplemental appropriations bill (H.R. 2216). The same day, the Senate cleared the measure by voice vote, sending it to the President.

The final measure provides $6.5 billion in supplemental defense spending and disaster assistance. As approved by both the House and the Senate, the final bill includes $116 million to enable the Treasury Department to mail out tax rebates as provided under the new tax law (P.L. 107-16) and $161 million for Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.

Additionally, the final legislation provides $100 million for international HIV/AIDS assistance, the same amount approved by the Senate.
