DNA Collection Bill Passes Senate, Heads to President

On December 28, the Senate passed, by unanimous consent, the Katie Sepich Enhanced DNA Collection Act (H.R. 6014). The House approved the legislation on December 18 (see The Source, 12/21/12). President Obama is expected to sign the measure into law.

The measure authorizes $10 million annually for FY2013-2015 to assist state and local law enforcement agencies with the collection of DNA samples from adults arrested for, or charged with, a criminal offense involving a sexual act that is punishable by imprisonment for more than one year
