On February 11, the Senate Finance Committee approved, by voice vote, a bill to create a military spouse job continuity credit (as-yet-unnumbered).
Sponsored by Chair Orrin Hatch (R-UT), the bill would allow individuals married to members of the armed forces to claim up to $500 in tax credits to cover the costs of relicensing or recertification fees incurred when moving across state lines under a permanent change of station order. The bill defines such fees as those “required by the new state…to engage in the same profession as in the previous state.”
