On July 10, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government approved, by voice vote, the FY2014 Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill (as-yet-unnumbered).
According to the committee summary, the bill would provide $17 billion in FY2014 for the Small Business Administration (SBA), District of Columbia, the federal courts, the Treasury Department, and several other federal agencies. This amount is $4.3 billion below FY2013* and $3 billion below the current level imposed by sequestration, across-the-board cuts imposed by the Budget Control Act (P.L. 112-25).
The measure would provide $898 million for the SBA in FY2014, $147 million below FY2013 and $87.812 million over President Obama’s request. Women’s Business Centers, the National Women’s Business Council, Microloan Technical Assistance, and Small Business Development Centers receive funding through the SBA.
The legislation would continue to prohibit the District of Columbia from using local funds to pay for abortion services for low-income women. The measure also would continue the prohibition on using federal funds to pay for abortion services.
Additional details will be made available once the committee releases its report.
