Fourth CR Needed

On October 19, the House and Senate approved the fourth FY2001 continuing resolution (H. J. Res. 114), which will fund government programs at FY2000 levels through October 25. The House passed the resolution by a vote of 262-136 and the Senate approved it by voice vote. Lawmakers hope to broker deals on the lingering sticking points in the remaining FY2001 spending bills—Commerce, Justice, State; Foreign Operations; and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education—by the middle of next week. The FY2001 District of Columbia spending bill is ready for floor action but is being held as a possible vehicle for an omnibus bill.
