House Committee Approves Bills to Combat Human Trafficking

On November 29, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee passed, by voice vote, several bills, including H.R. 3814, the No Human Trafficking on Our Roads Act, as amended, and H.R. 3813, the Combatting Human Trafficking in Commercial Vehicles Act. The Senate approved its version of these bills, S. 1532 and S. 1536, respectively, in September (see The Source, 9/15/17).

H.R. 3814
Sponsored by Rep. John Katko (R-NY), the bill would enforce a lifetime disqualification of an individual who uses a commercial motor vehicle to commit a felony involving human trafficking.

H.R. 3813
Sponsored by Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D-CT), the legislation, among other provisions, would designate a human trafficking prevention coordinator within the Department of Transportation.
