House Committee Approves Newborn Screening Bill

On April 3, the House Energy and Commerce Committee approved, by voice vote, the Newborn Screening Saves Lives Act (H.R. 1281). The Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee approved the legislation on February 27 (see The Source, 2/28/14).

As amended, the bill, sponsored by Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), would reauthorize $26.834 million annually for the improved screening of, and counseling and follow up treatment for, newborn and heritable disorders.
