House Panel Clears Worker Flexibility Bill

On April 17, the House Education and the Workforce Committee approved, 23-14, the Working Families Flexibility Act (H.R. 1406), as amended. The Subcommittee on Workforce Protections held a hearing on the bill on April 11.

Sponsored by Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL), the measure would amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (29 USC 207) to allow private employers to provide employees with the option of receiving paid compensatory time in lieu of overtime compensation.

During consideration of the bill, the committee defeated several amendments.
