House Passes Bill Reauthorizing Health Centers Program

On June 4, the House passed, 393-24, H.R. 1343, the Health Centers Renewal Act of 2007. The House Energy and Commerce Committee approved the measure in April (see The Source, 4/25/08). The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee passed its version of the bill (S. 901) in November (see The Source, 11/16/07).

The bill would authorize $2.189 billion for community, migrant, public housing, and homeless health centers in FY2008, with amounts increasing annually to $3.537 billion in FY2012. Federal health centers last were reauthorized in 2002 (P.L. 107-251); their current authorization expired at the end of FY2006.
