House Passes Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Act

On July 15, the House passed, 421-9, the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Act (H.R. 2722).

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), would direct the Department of Treasury to mint and issue up to 50,000 $5 “pink gold” coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins, and 750,000 half-dollar clad coins that represent the fight against breast cancer.

Among other provisions, the Treasury would select the design for the coins and issue the coins for one year, beginning on January 1, 2018. In addition, proceeds from the sale of the coins would be given to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
