House Passes Resolution to Address Famine in South Sudan

On April 25, the House passed, by voice vote, H. Res. 187, a resolution relating to the efforts to respond to the famine in South Sudan.

Sponsored by Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA), the resolution requests that the government of Sudan allow humanitarian access to areas where famine is underway. The resolution also notes that one million children in South Sudan are suffering from malnutrition.

The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations held a hearing regarding famine in East Africa on March 28 (see The Source, 3/31/17).
