House Subcommittee Holds Hearing on SNAP

On September 13, the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition held a hearing, “Past, Present, and Future of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): Improving Innovation and Success in Employment and Training Programs.” The hearing focused on the current SNAP program to help low-income individuals and families overcome poverty.

This is the most recent in a series of hearings held by the Agriculture Committee to examine the effectiveness of the program (see The Source, 1/15/16).

The following witnesses testified:

  • David Stillman, assistant secretary, Economic Services Administration, Washington State Department of Social and Health Services;
  • Pete Weber, founder, Fresno Bridge Academy; and
  • Jon Anderson, deputy division director, Office of Family Independence, Georgia Division of Family and Children Services.
