House Subcommittee Holds Hearing on STEM and Computer Science Education

On July 26, the House Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on Research and Technology held a hearing, “STEM and Computer Science Education: Preparing the 21st Century Workforce.” The hearing emphasized the importance of engaging students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, including the need to increase the number of girls and women in STEM fields.  

The following witnesses testified:

  • James Brown, executive director, STEM Education Coalition;
  • Pat Yongpradit, chief academic officer, Code.org;
  • Paul Alivisatos, executive chair and provost, vice chancellor of research, professor of chemistry and materials science and engineering, University of California, Berkeley; and
  • Dee Mooney, executive director, Micron Technology Foundation.
