Human Trafficking Bills Clear House

On May 20, the House approved several bills to address sex trafficking: the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act (H.R. 3530), the Stop Exploitation Through Trafficking Act (H.R. 3610), the Stop Advertising Victims of Exploitation (SAVE) Act (H.R. 4225), the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Improving Opportunities for Youth in Foster Care Act (H.R. 4058), and the International Megan’s Law to Prevent Demand for Child Sex Trafficking Act (H.R. 4573).

The House Judiciary Committee approved H.R. 3530, H.R. 3610, and H.R. 4225 on April 30 (see The Source, 5/2/14), the House Ways and Means Committee approved H.R. 4058 on April 29 (see The Source, 5/2/14), and the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved H.R. 4573 on May 9 (see The Source, 5/9/14).

The House approved the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act by a vote of 409-0, and the SAVE Act by a vote of 392-19.

The House also approved the following bills by voice vote:

  • The Stop Exploitation Through Trafficking Act;
  • The Preventing Sex Trafficking and Improving Opportunities for Youth in Foster Care Act; and
  • The International Megan’s Law to Prevent Demand for Child Sex Trafficking Act.
