On July 9, the House passed, 415-6, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) (H.R. 803).
The House originally passed comparable legislation known as the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act in March. The Senate subsequently approved WIOA as a substitute amendment to the SKILLS Act on June 25 (see The Source, 6/27/14). The president is expected to sign the measure into law.
The measure would repeal the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (P.L 105-220) to strengthen workforce education and development programs.
