NASA, Coast Guard Reauthorization Bills Cleared for President

NASA Reauthorization

On September 29, the House passed, 304-118, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Reauthorization Act (S. 3729). The Senate passed the bill on August 5 (see The Source, 8/6/10). President Obama is expected to sign the measure into law.

The bill contains provisions to encourage women and girls to study and pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Coast Guard Reauthorization

On September 30, the House passed, by voice vote, an amended version of the Coast Guard Reauthorization Act (H.R. 3619). The Senate passed the bill on September 29 by unanimous consent. The original legislation passed the Senate on May 7 (see The Source, 5/7/10) and the House on October 23, 2009 (see The Source 10/23/09). The president is expected to sign the measure into law.

The bill contains provisions to address sexual assault in the Coast Guard.
