NASA Reauthorization Bill Clears Senate

On August 5, the Senate passed, by voice vote, the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) Reauthorization Act (S. 3729). The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee approved the bill on July 15; the House Science and Technology Committee approved its version of the bill (H.R. 5781) on July 21 (see The Source, 7/23/10).

The bill, sponsored by Sen. John Rockefeller (D-WV), would authorize $58.4 billion for FY2011-2013 for programs administered by NASA, including science education programs. The House bill contains provisions to encourage women and minorities to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
