Pathways to Success Subject of House Hearing on SNAP

On July 18, the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition held a hearing, “The Next Farm Bill: Pathways to Success for SNAP Households.” The hearing focused on ways recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can improve education and employment opportunities. This is the latest in a series of hearings to examine the reauthorization of the Farm Bill (P.L. 113-79), which expires in September 2018. The Farm Bill provides the authorization for SNAP.

The following witnesses testified during the hearing:

  • Harry Holzer, John Lafarge, Jr. SJ Professor of Public Policy, McCourt School of Public Policy, Georgetown University;
  • Eliyahu Lotzar, student success coordinator, Onondaga Community College Economic and Workforce Development and Pathway to Careers; and
  • Heather Reynolds, president and chief executive officer, Catholic Charities Fort Worth.
