This week, the Senate began consideration of an appropriations package consisting of the FY2015 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) (S. 2437), FY2015 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Related Agencies (S. 2389), and FY2015 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (HUD) (S. 2438) spending bills.
The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the CJS spending bill on June 5 (see The Source, 6/6/14). The bill would allocate $51.2 billion in discretionary funding for FY2015, $398 million below FY2014, but $1 billion over President Obama’s FY2015 request. The House bill would allocate $51.202 billion in discretionary funding for FY2015. The CJS spending bill provides funding for violence against women and domestic violence programs, as well as funding for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, among other programs and agencies.
The committee also approved the HUD spending bill on June 5 (see The Source, 6/6/14). The bill would provide $54.439 billion in discretionary funding for programs at the Departments of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This amount is $3.6 billion over FY2014 and $3.4 billion over President Obama’s FY2015 request. The House version of the bill (H.R. 4745) would allocate $52 billion. Funding for the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS and Family Self-Sufficiency programs is allocated within the spending bill.
The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the Agriculture and FDA spending bill on May 22 (see The Source, 5/23/14). The measure would provide $142.654 billion in overall funding in FY2015 for the Department of Agriculture, the FDA, and various related programs. This amount is $2.784 billion below FY2014 and $22.528 billion below President Obama’s FY2015 budget request. The House bill would allocate $142.5 billion. In addition to funding for the FDA, the bill provides funding for domestic and international food assistance programs.
