Senate Committee Approves Site for the National Women’s History Museum

On October 22, the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee approved, by voice vote, a bill (S. 1741) to provide a site for the National Women’s History Museum in the District of Columbia.

Sponsored by Chair Susan Collins (R-ME), S. 1741 would direct the General Services Administration to lease the vacant Old Post Office Annex on Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. to the National Women’s History Museum, Inc. for the development of the National Women’s History Museum.

In a press release announcing the introduction of S. 1741, Sen. Collins said that the National Women’s History Museum “is a win-win for women, the District of Columbia, and the federal government. It would boost the local economy by creating new jobs, increasing tourism and visitor spending, and generating tax revenue for the District. Even more important, the museum would highlight the outstanding contributions that women have made to the social, cultural, economic and political life of our nation.”
