Senate, House Committees Review 2016 Trafficking in Persons Report

On July 12, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing, “Review of the 2015 Trafficking in Persons Report.” This hearing is part of the committee’s review of the State Department’s annual report on Trafficking in Persons and sought to address ongoing questions about the report’s tier rankings. The committee held a similar hearing in August 2015 (see The Source, 8/7/15).

The Honorable Susan Coppedge, ambassador-at-large, Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, Department of State, testified at the hearing.

The same day, the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues held a similar hearing, “Accountability Over Politics: Scrutinizing the Trafficking in Persons Report.”

The subcommittee held a similar hearing on March 22 (see The Source, 3/25/16).
