Senate Panel Approves Agriculture Spending Bill

On April 26, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved, 28-1, the FY2013 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered).

According to the committee report and summary, the measure would provide $142.182 billion in overall funding for FY2013. This amount is $5.324 billion over FY2012 and $2.051 billion below President Obama’s FY2013 request. The bill funds domestic and international food assistance programs, as well as the Food and Drug Administration, among other programs.

The committee would provide $60 million for breastfeeding support initiatives, equal to the amount provided in FY2012.
