This week, both chambers approved their versions of the FY2002 Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies appropriations bill. On July 31, the House approved, 336-89, its bill (H.R. 2620). The Senate passed its measure (S. 1216) on August 2 by a vote of 94-5.
Both bills would provide $1 billion for homeless housing programs, a $3 million increase over FY2001 and $5 million more than the President’s request. Additionally, both bills would provide the Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS (HOPWA) program with a $19 million increase to $277 million, the same amount requested by the President.
