This week, Congress cleared the conference report for the FY2001 Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill (H.R. 4635). The House approved the conference report on October 19 by a vote of 386-24. The Senate followed suit the same day, approving the measure by a vote of 85-8. Last week, the Senate approved the bill with a revised version of the FY2001 Energy and Water spending bill as an amendment (see The Source, 10/13/00, p. 3).
The bill will level-fund the Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS program at $232 million. The Stewart McKinney Homeless Assistance grants program also will be level-funded at $1 billion. The President is expected to sign the bill.
