On May 18, the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee passed H.R. 5229, the Improving Transition Programs for All Veterans Act, sponsored by Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA).
The bill would require the secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs to evaluate programs to assist veterans as they transition to civilian life. The study would focus on the “unique challenges” faced by women and minority veterans, particularly with regard to higher education, employment, and family life.
