Congressional Schedule: December 6-10, 2021

Floor Action:

The House and Senate are in session this week.

Health- This week, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 5487, the Stillbirth Health Improvement and Education (SHINE) for Autumn Act of 2021.

On Wednesday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 4555, the Oral Health Literacy and Awareness Act of 2021. The bill would conduct a public education campaign on oral disease for specific populations, including pregnant women.

Military- The House also is scheduled to consider H.R. 4350, the FY2022 National Defense Authorization Act. The bill contains provisions to address military sexual assault and Selective Service registration for women, among other provisions.

Women’s History- The House is scheduled to consider H.R. 3531, the Women Who Worked on the Home Front World War II Memorial Act.

Violence Against Women- The House will also consider H. Res. 837, a resolution expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) failed to adhere to its own human rights commitments. This resolution encourages the IOC to call on China to open an independent investigation into Olympian Peng Shuai’s sexual assault allegations and publicly commit to holding sexual violence abusers accountable.

Hearings:

Employment- On Thursday, the Senate Aging Committee will hold a hearing, “Financial Literacy: Addressing the Unique Just-in-Time Decisions Older Americans and People with Disabilities Face.”

Also on Thursday, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion will hold a hearing, “A Review of Diversity and Inclusion at America’s Largest Investment Firms.”

Family Support- On Wednesday, the House Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth will hold a hearing, “Growing our Economy by Investing in Families: How Supporting Family Caregiving Expands Economic Opportunity and Benefits All Americans.”

Violence Against Women- On Wednesday, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold an oversight hearing, “Restoring Justice: Addressing Violence in Native Communities through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Title IX Special Jurisdiction.”

Women’s History- On Tuesday, the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands will hold a hearing on several bills, including H.R. 1117, Rosie the Riveter National Historic Site Expansion Act.

H.R. 6099—Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO)/Judiciary (12/1/21)—A bill to replace references to “fetus” in federal law with references to “unborn child,” and for other purposes.

International

S. Res. 461—Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ)/Foreign Relations (11/30/21)—A resolution commemorating and supporting the goals of World AIDS Day.

Military

H.R. 6094—Rep. Marilyn Strickland (D-WA)/Armed Services (11/30/21)—A bill to provide for the coverage of assisted reproductive technology services under the TRICARE program, and for other purposes.

Sports

H. Res. 828—Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC)/Oversight and Reform (12/1/21)—A resolution congratulating the Washington Spirit on winning the 2021 National Women’s Soccer League championship.

Women’s History

S. 3294—Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN)/Rules and Administration (12/1/21)—A bill to obtain and direct the placement in the Capitol or on the Capitol Grounds of a statue to honor Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Sandra Day O’Connor and a statue to honor Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

H. Res. 834—Rep. Frederica S. Wilson (D-FL)/House Administration (12/2/21)—A resolution honoring the life and legacy of Congresswoman Carrie Pittman Meek and commending her for her devotion to the nation and its ideals.
