Weekly Legislative Update: February 9, 2026

Congressional Schedule: February 9-13, 2026 

Floor Action: The House and Senate are in session this week.  

The House must pass the remaining FY 2026 spending bill (Department of Homeland Security) or another extension by February 13 to prevent a partial government shutdown.  

Mark-Ups: 

Veterans- On Thursday, the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee will consider a number of bills, including H.R. 2148, the Veteran Caregiver Reeducation, Reemployment, and Retirement Act.  

Hearings: 

Child Care- On Thursday, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will hold a hearing to examine preventing fraud in child care assistance programs.   

Women’s History- On Tuesday, the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands will hold a legislative hearing on a number of bills, including H.R. 1329, the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.
