Weekly Legislative Update: June 28, 2021

CONGRESSIONAL SCHEDULE: JUNE 28-July 2, 2021

Floor Action:

The  House is in session this week.

The Senate is in recess until July 12.

International- On Monday, the House is scheduled to consider several bills, including H.R. 1500, the Global Learning Loss Assessment Act of 2021, which seeks to assess the impact of COVID-19 on basic and girls’ education programs in low and middle-income countries.

STEM- The House also will consider H.R. 3593, the Department of Energy Science for the Future Act, which includes provisions that would expand opportunities to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion of STEM professionals at the Department of Energy.

Mark-Ups:

Appropriations-On Monday, the House Appropriations Committee will mark up the FY2022 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). This bill contains funding for US foreign aid programs, including key programs promoting global women’s health, anti-human trafficking, and education and civic empowerment for women and girls.

On Tuesday, the House Appropriations Committee will consider legislation, including the FY2022, Financial Services and General Government spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered), which contains funding for the women-owned business programs within the Small Business Administration.

Also on Tuesday, the House Appropriations Committee will mark up the FY2022 Legislative Branch spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). The bill would direct the Architect of the Capitol, the House Curator, and the Capitol Historical Society to increase images of women in public spaces in Congress.

On Wednesday, the House Appropriations Committee will mark up the FY2022 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Related Agencies (as-yet-unnumbered), and the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies spending bills (as-yet-unnumbered). These bills contain funding for domestic and international food programs, as well as funding for military family housing and the Veterans Health Administration, respectively.

Also on Wednesday, the House Appropriations Committee will consider the FY2022 Defense spending bill (as-yet-unnumbered). The measure contains funding for military personnel programs, including sexual assault prevention and the Defense Health Program.

International-On Wednesday, the House Foreign Affairs Committee is scheduled to mark up H.R. 3524, the Ensuring American Global Leadership and Engagement (EAGLE) Act. The bill contains provisions to address global health, gender-based violence, and women’s rights.

Miscellaneous-On Tuesday, the House Oversight and Reform Committee will mark up several bills, including H.R. 2324, a bill designating the “D. Edwina Stephens Post Office.”
