Floor Action:

The House and Senate are in session this week.

Health- On Friday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 3110, the Providing Urgent Maternal Protections (PUMP) for Nursing Mothers Act.

Miscellaneous- On Wednesday, the House will consider H.R. 1444, a bill to designate the “Patsy Cline Post Office.”

Violence Against Women- On Thursday, the House is scheduled to consider H.R. 2119, the Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act of 2021.

Mark-Ups:

International– On Thursday, the House Foreign Affairs Committee will mark up several bills, including H.R. 5497, the BURMA Act of 2021. The bill would address gender-based violence and the engagement of women in the peace-building process, among other issues.

Hearings:

Civil Rights- On Thursday, the House Oversight and Reform Committee will hold a hearing, “The Equal Rights Amendment: Achieving Constitutional Equality for All.”

Health- On Wednesday, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing, “Enhancing Public Health: Legislation to Protect Children and Families.” The hearing will discuss several bills, including H.R. 4612, the Protecting Access to Lifesaving Screenings (PALS) Act of 2021, and H.R. 5487, the Stillbirth Health Improvement and Education (SHINE) for Autumn Act of 2021.

Veterans- On Wednesday, the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs will hold a hearing on several bills, including H.R. 2568, the United States Cadet Nurse Corps Service Recognition Act of 2021; H.R. 2724, the VA Peer Support Enhancement for Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Survivors Act; H.R. 2827, the Captain James C. Edge Gold Star Spouse Equity Act; H.R. 3402, the Caring for Survivors Act of 2021; H.R. 3793, the Supporting Families of the Fallen Act; H.R. 4191, the Gold Star Spouses Non-Monetary Benefits Act; a bill to improve the manner in which the Board of Veterans’ Appeals conducts hearings regarding claims involving military sexual trauma and to direct the secretary of Veterans’ Affairs to improve the language and practices of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs with respect to such claims (as-yet-unnumbered); and a bill to improve coordination between the Veterans Health Administration and the Veterans Benefits Administration with respect to claims for compensation arising from military sexual trauma, and for other purposes (as-yet-unnumbered).

Also on Wednesday, the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee will hold a hearing to consider pending legislation, including S. 1937, the Delivering Optimally Urgent Labor Access (DOULA) for VA Act of 2021; S. 2386, the Veteran Peer Specialist Act of 2021; and S. 2533, the Making Advances in Mammography and Medical Options (MAMMO) for Veterans Act.

H. Res. 719—Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA)/Energy and Commerce (10/12/2021)—A resolution thanking and promoting the professions of perinatal nurses by encouraging participation in “National Perinatal Nurses Week.”

H. Res. 722—Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL)/Oversight and Reform (10/15/2021)—A resolution supporting the designation of October 15, 2021, as “National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day” and recognizing the people who have lost a pregnancy or an infant.
