Women Veterans Extension of Benefits Sent to President

Congress approved legislation (S. 2237) that extends a number of veterans benefits, including an extension of a special monthly compensation for women who undergo mastectomies during their military service. The House passed the bill by unanimous consent on November 14, and the Senate agreed to the House changes, passing the bill by unanimous consent on November 18.

The final bill grants the special monthly compensation to women who have lost “25 percent or more of tissue from a single or both breasts in combination (including loss by mastectomy or partial mastectomy) or has received radiation treatment of breast tissue.”
